FuRyu’s high-quality hobby brand F:NEX introduces their 1/4-scale “Japanese Doll” version of 2B from “NieR:Automata Ver.1.1a”! The loose kimono brings out 2B’s unique beauty, and the movement of the hem in the wind creates a gorgeous silhouette. The design harmonizes with the black-based kimono, sheer thigh-high tights, and textured boots; her hair accessory and large obi knot catch the eye, and the overall composition of her pose and weapon is impressive!
The costume prototype was created by doll artist Ayumi Uyama. The kimono is worn boldly loose, with the image of 2B facing her enemy with dignity, with her beloved sword in hand. In keeping with her usual gothic outfit, a black dress is used instead of a kimono undergarment, creating a two-tone black-and-silver color scheme. The flowing hem and sleeves give a sense of 2B’s inner strength. Ayumi Uyama has taken the concept of 2B’s usual outfit and beautifully translated it into an elegant kimono look.
The fabric for the furisode and obi is brocade, a traditional textile made with gold and silver threads, as well as gold and silver foil, woven at a high density, which allows various patterns to be expressed in a three-dimensional, glossy texture. A solid black brocade known as “mukkimono” was used for the furisode, which is made without gold thread, to honor the image of the gothic black clothing that is 2B’s symbol. The pattern is “kumotatewaku,” a traditional court motif that is said to depict steam and clouds rising; it is also said to be an auspicious motif that combines “clouds” and “luck,” and we wish happiness for 2B as she lives in the cycle of reincarnation.
For the obi, the image was reversed from black, and silver-white brocade is used to match her hair color. The pattern is modeled after waves crashing hard against a cliff, to express inner feelings and strength. The obi fabric, which adds an accent to 2B’s dignified posture, is made by Bando Shoten, a representative Kyoto textile merchant that was founded in 1947.
